| Courses are held in Holyhead Lifeboat Station on the island of Anglesey within sight of the Irish Sea. Hot drinks and biscuits are provided, but please bring your own lunch. RYA DAY SKIPPER THEORY:
An introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and basic seamanship. If your ambition is to be a skipper, to take friends and family to sea on a yacht, this is a crucial course which provides the foundation for all your later development as a seaman and skipper. No prior knowledge is assumed, but it is a distinct advantage to have some sailing experience.
Duration: five days or three weekends

RYA COASTAL SKIPPER/YACHTMASTER THEORY:
This is an advanced course in navigation and meteorology, essential for candidates wishing to take Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster exams. Expected pre-course knowledge is Day Skipper theory standard, as there is little time to recap these topics during the course.
Duration: six days or three weekends.

VHF RADIO SHORT RANGE CERTIFICATE:
If you have a VHF radio on board, you are required by law to hold an operators' licence. This course covers the procedures and skills for operation of a VHF radio fitted with Digital Selective Calling, along with an introduction to other GMDSS equipment. We use modified VHF radios fitted with DSC for realistic training.

RYA SEA SURVIVAL COURSE:
This course can save you and your crews' life. It covers use of survival equipment, liferaft and flares. A pool session includes the practical side of launching, boarding and surviving in a liferaft. If you are thinking of buying a liferaft it is useful to do this course first.

RYA FIRST AID CERTIFICATE:
In an emergency practical knowledge of first aid can save lives, especially at sea where there is no ambulance a short drive away. This intensive one day course arms you with essential first aid skills for people on the water, from small craft to power and sailing yachts.
